For 137 years, PrescottSchool served students and families in historic West Oakland. During the 2005-2006, the staff and community of PrescottElementary School spent the school year in the “incubation” phase of designing and visioning a school that would better serve the academic, social, and cultural needs of the students in this West Oakland community. The “old” Prescott transformed from a comprehensive school serving 466 students in 2005-06 into P.L.A.C.E. @ PRESCOTT (PreparatoryLiteraryAcademy of Cultural Excellence) a “new small school” model of reform where we currently serve only 200 students due to a variety of situations beyond our control. As the OUSD enrollment declines and neighborhoods like ours are being “gentrified” or threatened with the opening of Charter Schools, this steady systematic decline in enrollment at PLACE @ Prescott has continued to threaten our continued existence!
