• SB172 was signed into law October 7th by Governor Brown: however it doesn’t go into effect until January 1, 2016.  As a result, the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) is no longer a requirement for graduation. This impacts past students who had met all graduation requirements except for CAHSEE and future graduates.

The exit exam has been cancelled through the 2017-2018 school year. In the meantime, the California Department of Education is assembling a panel to study and create a viable replacement (possibly SBAC). Further details/recommendations from the state are expected around March 2016.

Retroactively, students from the classes of 2006-2014 (SB725 dealt with the class of 2014-2015 only) will be freed from the requirement of the CAHSEE, leaving a yet-to-be-determined number of students eligible for high school diplomas. By law, no retroactive diplomas can be issued until after January 1, 2016.

Districts have no state mandate to contact students in a particular method, so we’re asking former OUSD students who might qualify for a diploma to complete the following brief Google survey form Request for a Transcript Check.

Students that have requested diploma reviews will be contacted by the District with a diploma status as well as location and time for pick-up after January 1, 2016".
