Oakland Adult and Career Education:
Looking Ahead

OACE has opened our doors as an official Pearson Vue GED Testing Site for students in the OACE High School Equivalency program! We are able to provide support and “high-touch” service for students, starting with program orientation to classroom instruction to GED testing.

OACE is now a part of the Oakland Unified School District Office of Post-Secondary Readiness Division, with Deputy Chief Bernard McCune.

This is an opportunity to more closely articulate Adult Education instruction with K-12.

OACE is pleased to be a component of the Literacy Lab Implementation package offered to OUSD K-12 schools by Oakland Reads 2020 and Oakland Technical Exchange West at

The partner host school will receive a refurbished computer lab with strong network connectivity, and eligible families will receive a free home computer from OTX West. This fall, OACE is providing a 50-hour Computer Family Literacy course to parents at Horace Mann Elementary School, REACH Academy and Garfield Elementary School.

We continue to plan for the future of OACE:
  • The Northern Alameda County Regional Consortium for Adult Education is working with staff and stakeholders to better coordinate Adult Education services with Adult Schools and the Peralta Community College. Chris Nelson is coordinating the Consortium.
  • OACE is in the process of renewing our accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Teachers Elizabet Wendt and Roger Chretien are leading our Self Study process.
  •  OACE will soon engage in strategic planning, with a grant from the Y&H Soda Foundation. The goal is for to grow in a thoughtful and strategic manner that meets the complex needs of the Oakland community, with integrity and accountability.
We are grateful to the staff, volunteers and partners for their dedication to the adult learners in Oakland during these times of challenge and transition.
