  • Welcome Back Frick Families!

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year.  We are excited to help develop the minds and hearts of young scholars this coming year.  We have a number of exciting things we will accomplish.  We want to prepare our students effectively for both college and career and will use project-based learning to help develop the skills students will need for success today and in the future.

Our expectation for all students is daily attendance: everyday, every class, every period, on-time.  Students who miss more than 10 days of school are 20% less likely to graduate high school and have a 25% less chance of ever enrolling in college, and our goal is for all students to have successful futures in the college and career of their choice.  Making that happen starts in middle school with attending school daily.

We want to answer some frequently asked questions most families have:

    • Registration Dates/Times (All Grades):
      • Thursday, August 14th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
      • Friday, August 15th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
      • Saturday, August 16th and from 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM
      • Please be sure to bring a copy of your students shot record.  If your student has a medical condition please bring documentation for our school nurse.  Our health services department is planning to offer TDAP shots during registration for free.
    • First Day of School: August 25, 2014
    • School Hours:
      • Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday: 8:30 AM – 3:15 PM
      • Wednesdays and all minimum days: 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM
      • A full list of minimum days will be provided at registration
    • Physical Education Uniforms:
    •    Plain white t-shirt tops.  Blue sweatpants/sweat shorts.
    • All students are expected to dress for PE.
    • Families may purchase need items for a local retail store.

We also want to make families aware of support services we have for families free of charge:

    • Extended Day Program – Our extended day program is a free program that runs daily from immediately after school and ends at 6 PM daily.
    • Behavioral Health Services – We have two full-time therapists offering counseling to students for various reasons: grief counseling, depression, anxiety, etc.  All services are confidential and free of change.  Services are available in English and Spanish.  Call 510) 639-3507 to make a referral.
    • Physical Health Services – We weekly have free medical services on campus in our health center provided through Native American Health Center.  All services are confidential and free of change.

Our goal is to have parents are active leaders and decision makers.  We know real progress requires active parent participation.  We have the following parent leadership groups:

    • School Site Council:  The School Site Council helps to make budget decisions around Title 1 monies.  It meets monthly and gives parents a say in how we spend dollars meant to help our students academically.
    • English Learners Advisory Committee:  The English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) is responsible for advising the principal and staff on programs and services for English learners and the School Site Council on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement

As we start the school off our commitment to you is daily making sure we bring our best as we work to education the whole child.  We ask the families to make the same commitment of bringing their all everyday as well.  If we do, success is certain.
