Each school with 21 or more English Language Learners (ELL), regardless of language, must form a functioning English Leaner Advisory Committee (ELAC) or subcommittee of an existing committee.
The ELAC membership must minimally reflect the total student population at the school (percentage of ELL’s)
The purpose of the ELAC is to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English Language Learners.
The Committee advises (reviews and comments) on at least the following:
Development of a detailed plan for English Language Learner education for the individual school
Development of the school’s needs assessment
Dissemination of the school’s annual language census
Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance
