Letter from the Principal:

Dear Montera Families,

As many of you know, this has been a difficult two weeks for our community as we come to terms with the loss of one of our 8th grade students. While our immediate focus is to help nurture the healing process for our children and for one another, we are also looking at ways to create compassionate conversation in the long term. To that end, we have begun exploring prevention awareness programs that schools throughout the country have used in the wake of such tragedies.

As we look forward to the last marking period of year, I am pleased to relay some exciting news:
Montera has just been awarded the extremely generous 21st Century Grant to fund our after school program beginning with the 2013-2014 school year. Delivered in installments over five years, the grant will enable us to create enrichment opportunities of tremendous depth and variety for all our students. We’re just beginning to learn more about the grant, and the ways it can be utilized. But rest assured, it will be a tremendous asset to our community.

Finally, the annual California Standards Tests are just around the corner. Please be sure that your student arrives at school well rested, well nourished and on time.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me in person, by email (tina.tranzor@ousd.k12.ca.us) or phone (510.531.6070).

Warmly,

Dr. Tina Tranzor, Principal
